世界中の人々を魅了してきた写真家 デヴィッド・ラシャペル（David LaChapelle） によるオンライントークショー「未来の写真家たちへ Message from the Masters of Photography vol.6」 を、NPIにて開催しました。
本オンライントークショーは、写真家を志すすべての方に向けて、写真界を代表する巨匠たちが、自身のキャリアや哲学を語るオンライントークイベントです。
これまで アレック・ソス、スティーブ・マッカリー、スーザン・メイゼラス、スティーブン・ショア、マーティン・パー が登壇し、第6弾となる今回は、ファッション・広告・アートの分野で圧倒的な存在感を放ち続けてきた鬼才、デヴィッド・ラシャペル氏をお迎えしました。
今回のトークショーでは、創作に対する強いこだわりと、神という存在や自然への深いリスペクトが作品の根底にあることが語られました。
寄せられた多くの質問にも一つひとつ丁寧に向き合い、トーク後半では会場の学生たちとオンラインでつなぎ、質疑応答を行いました。
「自分たちがやりたいことを信じてほしい」という言葉を何度も学生に投げかけ、ラシャペル氏の写真に向き合う姿勢や創作への想いが強く伝わる時間となりました。
また、これから作品制作に向き合う学生たちにとって、写真集や美術館に足を運び「本物」に触れることが、自身を刺激し、視野を広げる重要な行為であることも強調されました。
ラシャぺル氏は、トーク終盤に世に残る作品を作るために大事なことをこのように語っていました。
「作品を作るひとが正直で、情熱を持って愛しているものを作ることしかない」
ラシャペル氏の言葉一つひとつが、学生たちへの力強いメッセージとなり、大きな刺激と学びに満ちた時間となりました。
NPI hosted an online talk show, “Message from the Masters of Photography vol.6: To Future Photographers,” featuring photographer David LaChapelle, who has captivated people around the world.
This online talk show is an event for aspiring photographers, where masters representing the photography world discuss their careers and philosophies.
Previous speakers have included Alec Soth, Steve McCurry, Susan Meiselas, Steven Shore, and Martin Parr. For this sixth installment, we welcomed David LaChapelle, a genius who continues to exert an overwhelming presence in the fields of fashion, advertising, and art.
In this talk show, he spoke about his strong commitment to creativity and the deep respect for God and nature that underlies his work.
He responded politely to each of the many questions submitted, and in the latter half of the talk, he connected online with students in the audience for a Q&A session.
He repeatedly urged students to “believe in what you want to do,” making it a powerful moment that conveyed his approach to photography and his passion for creation.
He also emphasized that for students about to embark on their own creative work, visiting photo books and museums to experience the “real thing” is a crucial act that stimulates them and broadens their horizons.
Towards the end of the talk, Mr. LaChapelle shared what he believes is essential for creating enduring work:
“The only way is for the creator to be honest and to make something they passionately love.”
Each of Mr. LaChapelle’s words became a powerful message for the students, making it a time filled with great inspiration and learning.
